Barns are a common sight in these parts, so to put a unique twist on the subject I paint them on a miniature scale. I interpret realistic scenes with a sort of fairytale softness. I want the viewer to look closely at all of the tiny details, and visually wander through these idyllic places.
Barns hold so much meaning for me, and for many others. Each is unique, and because of that I never tire of painting them. It breaks my heart to see so many of these iconic structures deteriorating. They define a way of life peculiar to their location, and a time period in our country’s history. Sadly, that way of life is quickly disappearing. I feel I’m doing what preservation I can by painting local barns and their surrounding farmland.
